Overview
Taking care of a loved one in their retirement age is challenging and exhausting. With the combination of smartwatch and AI assistance, StayCare brings ease to daily tasks and lifts the mental resources for the caregiver.
Background
Aging and Dementia: The Role of Family Caregivers
It is inevitable that some people will experience health issues in retirement age. There are 1 in 9 people is diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, and there are common comorbidities including stroke, heart disease, and diabetes, as a result affecting senior independence. The sudden or gradual change that family members have started taking the role of caregiver. There are many things to learn in proper care, and even need to remember all the doctor’s appointments and daily tasks.

Family caregivers face the dual challenge of managing daily tasks while providing physical and emotional support to seniors, especially those with dementia or Alzheimer’s, whose aggressive behaviors can lead to mental exhaustion. In Canada, accessing caregiving resources is often confusing, with many families relying on case managers for information due to the limited availability of comprehensive support online. Balancing personal well-being while delivering quality care is essential, as the physical and emotional demands of caregiving can significantly impact a caregiver’s ability to provide effective support.

Emma faces the challenges of caring for her mother, whose condition necessitates constant attention and support. Living together, she navigates daily responsibilities while managing her own health. Emma seeks resources and strategies to balance her caregiving role with her personal needs, striving to provide exceptional care without sacrificing her quality of life.

While it is limited to Apple’s ecosystem, the combination of real-time health data, emergency features, and goal-setting tools offers powerful support for caregivers, making it an ideal solution for monitoring and ensuring safety.

This allows the caregiver and the senior to share the same information and expectations of schedule and activities. Therefore, this hopes to minimize the senior aggressive behaviour when the situation is confusing for them.
